The Little Canuck: Musings From a New Land |
Moving to a new country provokes thoughts, ideas, feelings, and realizations that I never would have expected before I uprooted my life in Canada to move to the heart of Scandinavia. For any fellow Canucks or other nationalities out there who have moved to (or are planning to move to) Sweden, consider this your anecdotal what-to-expect survival guide! Sweden is my home now, so join me as I continue my overseas adventures and share my reflections, opinions and (alas!) often embarrassing confessions on a plethora of topics! ONE LAST THING! If you have received a follow or a like from me and were expecting a veggie-related blog, you've come to the right girl, just not the right place. www.eatconsciouslylivekindly.tumblr.com is where you'll find all things vegan. :) Enjoy! |
Wooden buildings often aren’t arbitrarily red.
Falu red (pronounced “FAH-loo”, in Swedish it’s Falu rödfärg) is the name of a Swedish, deep red paint well known for its use on wooden cottages and barns for preservation. The paint originated from the copper mine at Falun in Dalarna, Sweden and consists of water, rye flour, linseed oil and tailings from the copper mines of Falun which contain silicates iron oxides, copper compounds and zinc. Falu red is still widely used in the Swedish countryside.
